With help from the softball community & British Airways contest, Great Britain Softball one step closer to making it to the ISF World Championships Last week Bob Fromer, Head Coach of the Great Britain Women's Softball team, reached out to many in the softball community asking for help to get his team to the 2010 ISF World Championships. With softball being eliminated from the Olympic program in 2012 and 2016, funding for the Great Britain National Team has been drastically cut. In order to continue competing, the team has been faced with raising their own funds to pay their way. Earlier today, the ISF announced the long awaited news that the World Championships will take place in Venezuela starting June 23, 2010. Several hours earlier, Great Britain Softball received the news that they had won British Airway's contest which awarded the team 16 flights to anywhere the airline flies. Over the last week, many supporters throughout the softball world went to the British Airways website to vote for first baseman, Morgan Parkerson, who was representing her team in the contest. Great Britain still has more money to raise, but the flights will be a huge help to their travel costs. Below are the emails from Coach Fromer that were sent to his softball contacts, including the exciting news we received this morning title, "We Did It!" Congratulations to the Great Britain Women's Softball Team!
We Did It!
Dear All,
The GB Women's Team has won the British Airways "Great Britons" contest that will get us 16 free flights to the World Championships next year -- or to the nearest place to it that British Airways flies!
Thanks so much to all of you for your help in getting votes! People all around the world and throughout the softball community took the time to help us, and now it's looking a lot more likely that we'll actually get there!
This means a huge amount to the GB Team and we're very, very grateful!
Please spread the word around to all those people that you asked to vote and thank them as well on our behalf.
And best wishes to everyone for Christmas and the New Year!
Regards,
Bob

YOUR ONLINE VOTE CAN HELP THE GREAT BRITAIN WOMEN'S SOFTBALL TEAM GET TO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!
The Great Britain Women's Fastpitch Softball Team earned a place in the 2010 Softball World Championships by finishing second in European Championships this past summer, the team's highest-ever European placing.
But the team receives no public funding because softball is no longer an Olympic sport. Players and staff had to pay their own way to compete for their country at the European Championships, but the cost of preparing for and competing in the World Championships, wherever they're held, will beyond what our players and their families can afford. So the team has entered a British Airways contest called “Great Britons”, where the prize could be 16 desperately-needed free flights that can get the majority of our players and staff to the World Championships. Now the team has been shortlisted along with seven other entries, and the winner will be determined by public vote.
So please go online, type in the url http://www.greatbritons.ba.com/shortlists and cast your vote for the GB Women's Team entry submitted by first base player MORGAN PARKERSON. Just click on Morgan's name on the Judges' Shortlist and then hit the VOTE NOW button under Morgan's photo. You'll need to do a quick registration, and then you can vote. And then please get everyone you know and everyone you can reach by way of email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc to vote as well!
Voting closes on December 21.
Winning this contest could make all the difference between the GB Women's Softball Team being able to go to the World Championships and having to turn down its place. Thanks very much for your help!
